Saving Strategy

A crazy day at work.  Running the kids around to extracurricular activities.  Errands.  You make it home and enter the kitchen to cook dinner, only to discover that you forgot to thaw anything for dinner.  Your only options are takeout or a quick trip to the grocery store.  Either way, it is an unexpected expense.

We almost always have our coupons on hand.  However, coupons do not make a significant difference in the price of takeout.  Sure they help, but it is still an unplanned expense.

A quick trip to the grocery store is is also unexpected, but usually the better of the two options. You must be careful.  Quick grocery trips are often for items that you do not have coupons for.  This is where expenses add up quickly.  In this situation your best savings strategy is to shop the sales ad.  If bread is on sale have sandwiches.  Maybe chicken breasts are one of the big sale items of the week.  Use a quick go-to chicken recipe.  Regardless of what you decide to make, your choice will usually be considerably less than ordering takeout!

The next time you have an "Uh-oh, I forgot to thaw something for dinner!" moment, be sure to stop and weigh your savings options.
